Signal Boost – GG attacks SXSW panels on online safety, harassment, and VR.

Via Arthur Chu and with permission:

“As you may know, the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin uses a crowdsourced approval method for its panels, taking into account online voting to see which proposed panels get approved. (http://panelpicker.sxsw.com/)

Three panels proposed for SXSW Interactive — about gaming and interactive media — are being attacked by GamerGate right now. One of them, a panel about VR, isn’t even related to feminism or social justice issues but is being targeted anyway because Brianna Wu is on it.

Please consider registering to vote at the SXSW website — it’s free — and voting up these three panels, which I think are valuable and well worth pushing to be included in SXSW 2016, and not just because I’m on one of them with Brianna.

Being voted down en masse because you stick up for feminism is never something you fully get used to. Your support to get these panels onstage means a lot to us. Thanks.”

  2. People pro-Gamergate are applying to have a panel of their own at SXSW. How is that attacking the current panels? You didn’t even provide any evidence for your assertions. Great reporting there, mate. Top notch.

    1. There’s nothing wrong with people applying for a panel of their own at SXSW. Coordinated efforts to down vote a set of panels because they address harassment is different.

    2. You guys really have no life, do you?
